Imagine you go to a fancy restaurant, sit down, start looking at the menu, and see Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Kevin Smith, Quentin Tarantino, and John Favreau, sitting at the table next to you. Your eyes seem to be magnetized to them, as you nonchalantly glance at their lips while they talk, fooling yourself into thinking you can read them. Well you don’t have to pretend to have spy skills. Three seasons of Dinner for Five (2001), created by John Favreau, exist for free, on youtube.
It’s a show with those exact conversations; a round table talk show where the weirdest stories from the sets of the biggest movies are told. Directors/writers/actors discuss work process, and what it’s like to navigate a career in the media industry. Not only is this show entertaining, but it’s extremely informative to anyone remotely interested in a career in Hollywood,, no matter what corner of it you end up in. It’s basically a podcast before there were podcasts. So, this weekend, watch this show to feel like you’re eating with Hollywood’s elite.
